The first handmade tie in Abruzzo, made in Silvi Marina.
In the early sixties, Italo Ferretti decided to leave Silvi, his beloved hometown, on the coast of Abruzzo region in Italy, to go to Milan, where he first worked for a pharmaceutical company, and then for his uncle's transport company. Both those job experiences gave him the skills for the entrepreneur work and life he later decided to pursue.After some years in the North of Italy the then mandatory Italian military service, brought him back to Silvi Marina, and it was after the army experience that he decided to become a Representative for the Lebole parish company in the Center of Italy.
Italo Ferretti immediately noticed the great demand for neckties in the textile market, and a somehow deficient local manufacturing industry. That is the reason he decided to buy ties stock from Como’s already renowned fabrics companies and to resell them to the central Italy distribution, fashion retail network. The instant success of the idea convinces him to give life to his own production company: at first, just a small workshop in his hometown suburbs “Santostefano”, where the company actually takes the name from.
In those years, in Italy, “the tie par excellence” was the one made in Milan; Italo’s challenge was, indeed, to launch a product designed and manufactured entirely in Silvi Marina and make it the best. He really wanted to realize the best necktie in the world and make his hometown proud and famous worldwide.
He started studying the product thoroughly and taking design, styling, modeling and sewing classes. Thanks to the acquired skills, the competitors' analysis, and his powerful creativity, Italo Ferretti gave life to one of the highest levels of business companies in the field of luxury fashion.
From Toronto to Singapore
Italo Ferretti’s international success is due to his strong desire and determination to conquer not only Italy but the world in its whole with his accessories’ ideas and Italian sartorial experience. He chose Toronto as the starting point of the new enterprise, a city where Italo received a great consent and from which Canada soon followed, and became the most important market for the company, and consequently, the Italo Ferretti ties launch pad for the New World.
The first exclusive Italo Ferretti collection, the one which gave the brand visibility and recognition, dates back to 1977/78, when George Lucas became famous for the first film of the extraordinary Star Wars saga.
Italo Ferretti had the commercial flair and genius to design and create a line of silk ties inspired by the famous film, gaining instant success. Constantly looking for product innovations to ensure unrivaled quality, Italo systematically devoted himself to the development of new creating techniques for neckties production.
Italo Ferretti, the creator of Brioni ties
1979 represents to Italo Ferretti the turning point year, it indeed marks the start of the collaboration with a clothing factory in the Italian neighbourhood: Brioni. In fact, Italo Ferretti was the creator of Brioni ties and the, honestly, the true maker of his international reputation.
The Brioni tie, an indisputable synonym for high-end manufacturing and elegance, is the result of Italo's enthusiasm and passion. For almost 30 years the neckties realized by Italo Ferretti have been the world's Presidents, Politicians, and Governors favourites.
At the end of the collaboration with Brioni, Italo Ferretti concentrated his work entirely to the consolidation of his brand, at an international level. The manufacturing know-how, and the high quality materials spoke for themselves everywhere and mad him gain all the success he reached in the following decades.
Italo Ferretti ties are unique exceptional pieces, starting from the design to the patter, to the refinement of the silk used, to the labelling and also to the luxury packaging.
But what is the meaning of luxury fashion? According to Mr. Italo, luxury is "the ability to blend ideas, skills and expertise with the most renowned brands and smart personalities in the retail world. It’s thanks to originality and high-level knowledge and experience that someone can achieve unique and extremely refined luxury products".
Today the company Headquarters are still in Silvi Marina (not very far from the Santostefano area where the the first Italo Ferretti workshop was in the 60s), and since 2019 it’s Carlo, Italo’s first son who guides the Company, together with his two brothers Federico and Giacomo.

The Balanced Tie – Patent N ° 00065
The reinforcement applied to the tail, made of the same fabric of the tie, the three additional sewings and the double flaps make the tail much more heavy and solid. Thanks to this particular patent, ties are much more balanced and stable.
The anti-crease seam
Thanks to the invention of the anti-crease seam, Italo Ferretti has managed to solve the problem of the “overlapping” fabric that usually occurs at the collar, turning into bulges that are both annoying and unsightly to the eye! Thanks to this invention and processing, the fabric remains perfectly neat and smooth under the collar, and also the tightness of the tie’s knot is favoured.
All Italo Ferretti ties are embellished and further enhanced by the special Navetta, a simple and ingenious accessory that helps keep the tie in its correct position. The Navetta is a special tie-keeper, i.e. a fabric loop inserted in the back of the tie, which has a buttonhole with which to attach the tie to the shirt so that the tie always remains in the right position. An effective and smart alternative to the obsolete tie-clips.
